THE STORY OF THE TRUE CHILDREN OF MOTHER INDIA [PART ONE] [MANOJ KUMAR PANDEY]

THE STORY OF THE TRUE CHILDREN OF MOTHER INDIA [PART ONE]

PLEASE NOTE : I'M INTENTIONALLY TRYING TO MAKE SMALL POSTS AS MANY READERS TOLD THAT BHAGAT SINGH'S POST WAS VERY LONG, SO I'VE MADE PARTS FOR THIS PARTICULAR TOPIC.

As I've not mentioned in the title of the post, before we begin we must first conclude who should be really called as the true children of the nation ?, is it the politicians who are meant to serve the citizens of the nation ? or is it the so called celebrities from whom many believe that the entire country gets noticed globally ? or is it the cops who try to maintain law and order within a country ? or is it the scientists who works day and night to make us all proud through their work ? or is it all the people who were born in India ?

Well, everyone who I've mentioned above don't necessarily serve the nation intentionally, majority of them do it just because they get paid well, secondly the job is secure and then finally yeah they are serving the nation (with all due respect to those whose intention was to serve the nation, I'm speaking about the majority here). so they can be called as children of mother nation.

But who are the true children of the nation ?

Those who gave away everything just to serve the country, those who think that nation is their first priority, those who are even willing to give their life when that is what it takes to serve the nation, those who are willing to work in even the worst weather conditions that a human can handle, and sadly those who are remembered by the citizens of their own nation only during the time of war. They are the true children of our nation, they are INDIAN SOLDIERS.

(To be honest when I started this blog my only intention was to write about our brave soldiers but after some research I realized that it will be better to cover some small topics before writing about a strong one like this)

We all are patriotic Indians but that patriotism comes out only on 15th Aug and 26th Jan that too in the form of  Facebook and WhatsApp statuses, how many of such so called patriotic Indians are willing to give their life for the country ? Obviously not many, some of us may say that we will give anything to serve the country, but the truth is we have no idea about the fear of losing life, trust me there is no worst feeling like the fear of death. Life is the only ultimate gift given to us by god, life is what defines us. Can we even Imagine joining a job where we have almost 50% chances of getting killed ?, Can we even imagine our family crying next to our dead body ?. This is why soldiers deserve more respect than every other citizen in a country,, even though they know that all this can happen to them they still join the force just to protect all of us.

WARS WHICH INVOLVE INDIA :

India has fought 5 major wars since independence, four against Pakistan and one against China, where India has won most of them (4) with the help of our brave soldiers, many of them have lost their lives for this cause.

here's a list of wars that involve India after independence

1. FIRST INDIA-PAKISTAN WAR (1948-1949) : The war  fought for Kashmir also known as FIRST KASHMIR WAR.

2. INDIA-CHINA WAR (1962) : War fought because of border conflict also known as SINO-INDIAN WAR.

3. SECOND INDIA-PAKISTAN WAR (1965) : Again the war was fought for Kashmir also known as SECOND KASHMIR WAR

4. THIRD INDIA-PAKISTAN WAR (1971) : Where India fights Pakistan to free East Pakistan which is now known as Bangladesh, this war is also known as Bengali war of Independence,

5. THE KARGIL WAR (1999) : Where Pakistan tries to capture Indian territories but instead they get their ass kicked

These are some major wars that involves India,  India has also faced uncountable number of proxy wars ( what can we expect when we share our borders with such great nation like Pakistan which doesn't even have the word terrorism in its dictionary ).

LET'S START :

Before I begin, I want the readers to know that I can't cover the story of every soldier as these things don't get absorbed in the main stream media or any books it is really difficult to gather the information but I will try my best to cover the things that are availible from every possible source,

CAPTAIN MANOJ KUMAR PANDEY :

BASIC INFORMATION :

Manoj Kumar Pandey was born on 25th June 1975 in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, he was the son of Gopi Singh Pandey who was a businessman, Manoj Kumar Pandey was very much interested in boxing and body building, he was the best cadet of junior division of NCC in Uttar Pradesh, he joined the Indian army where he was commissioned into the 1/11 Gorkha Rifles ( Gorkha means Nepali Indian, Gorkha rifle means an army regiment comprising mainly Nepali Indians ), he was one of many fearless heroes of Kargil war who laid down his life in the war field.

WHAT MAKES HIM SO SPECIAL ?

Firstly, his courage to join the army, Secondly, his fearless attitude during the war

Let me tell you a incident here, when he appeared for his Service Selection Board (SSB) interview he was asked.

"Why do you want to join the Army?"

He answered : "I want to win the Param Vir Chakra."

Remember that Param Vir Chakra is the highest decoration award in the Indian Military which is given to the soldiers for their bravest and fearless acts during wartime. Guess what there are 21 recipients of Param Vir Chakra and Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey was the man of his words as he is one of the 21 recipients but the sad part here is, it was awarded after his death.

HIS SERVICE TO THE NATION

During the Kargil War in 1999 ( Operation Vijay ), he defended the Batalik Sector ( part of ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir it's like the center of Indo-Pak war ) with the help of his men (he was a captain at that point ) he along with his troops were successful in forcing back the intruders,

After defending some parts Batalik Sector the next big thing was to capture Jubar top from the enemies ( it belonged to Batalik and strategically it was one of the most important part )  Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey along with other soldiers attacked the Jubar top but the  enemy force started firing at them effectively stalling the Indian attack, but what happened next is what makes him a hero, he was a captain and any other soldier would have followed his orders if he had told them to go ahead and attack, but without even considering death he marched ahead of his troops and made the worst nightmare of the enemy force come true,  by this time he was wounded badly but he didn't stop he marched towards the first bunker ( a reinforment underground shelter) and killed two of the enemies after witnessing this ferocious act by their captain the troops destroyed other bunkers, when MK Pandey approached the final bunker he was badly hurt and after destroying the final bunker he collapsed,

The above instance defines the true meaning of Captain and Dedication, even though his body was not supporting him his mind was focused on one thing, that is to complete the objective, as a captain he inspired his troops to complete the objective leading them from the front.

MK PANDEY'S DEATH

Fearlessly assaulting the first enemy position, he killed two enemy personnel and destroyed the second position by killing two more. He was injured on the shoulder and legs while clearing the third position. Undaunted and without caring for his grievous injuries, he continued to lead the assault on the fourth position urging his men and destroyed the same with a grenade, even as he got a fatal burst on his forehead ( SOURCE : WIKIPEDIA )

He was awarded PARAM VIR CHAKRA after his death for his fearless and brave efforts during the war.

WHAT MAKES HIM GREAT ?

During his death do you know what were his last words ?

He said "Na chhodnu" ( don't spare them in Nepali ). Even during his last breath he was thinking just about this country..

In his personal dairy he wrote

"Some goals are so worthy, it's glorious even to fail"

that's how a soldier thinks, in the same dairy he has also written,

"If death strikes before I prove my blood, I promise (swear), I will kill death.".

If this doesn't make you feel his greatness believe me nothing will.

Before I end this post I would like to share what  former Indian army chief of staff, Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw had said about Gorkhas ( Soldiers from Nepali Regiment ).

"If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or a Gorkha."

That's how fearless these soldiers are they don't care about their life, they don't care about their future their only aim is to destroy whoever hurts mother India. But unfortunately the so called patriotic citizens have no idea who these soldiers are, we follow cricket, we follow football, we follow celebrities but the true heroes are never getting the social status that they deserve.

Whom to blame ?

Both media and the people, media is busy showing the divorce of some idiot celebrity, and we are very happy to watch that, but when some documentary of a Indian Soldier is running no one bats an eye. Unless we change our mindset nothing will change.

I'll be posting frequently about our soldiers, call me crazy think that I have a lot of free time, pull my leg. I don't care, to me it's always a pleasure writing about great people.
